Week 4 Recap - Mike Jones and Ziggy, the dynamic duo

VBL WEEK FOURCheck out the special 4th of July Edition of the VBL…SPL 66, Pro Shot West 48Don’t make him catch a body like that! Vince “Bodysnatcher” Camper did just that in the 3rd quarterof this matchup, blowing the lead wide open. Pro Shot West tried multiple defenders to slow Bodysnatcher down but he continued to catch bodies; he ended the night with 24 points and 6 rebounds. He had help from his fellow SPL teammate JT Money, who also chipped in with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Together, the two put on an amazing show for the fans with a plethora of crossovers, fancy layups, and fluid ball movement. The duo propelled their team to 3-1 on the season.For Pro Shot West, they drop to 1-3 on the season. A large part of their offensive issues was due to the fact that the Twin Powers couldn’t activate. Mario and Luigi had a dismal 8 and 6 point performance, respectively, and couldn’t find the mark on many wide open mid-range jumpers. Meezy also failed to follow up his monster performance last week as he tallied only 9 points. For next week Pro Shot West will need to retool and focus more on the offensive flow that got them a victory the last time they played.Player of the Game: Vince “Bodysnatcher” CamperBrand Black All-Stars 86, Sun Block 81No Kwame, no problem for the Brand Black All Stars, who improved to 4-0 on the season. Without their star player, they received contributions from all over the place to remain as the only team in VBL to boast an undefeated mark. Beast (12 points, 6 boards, 5 assists), Big Lee and T-Will were the main standouts and showcased their incredible talent. In the beginning of the game, Big Lee caught fire and scored 11 straight points. He showed range on his jumper and was almost unstoppable in the low post. Big Lee finished with an impressive 22 points and 10 rebounds on the day.Our Player of the Game, however, was T-Will. The 2013 VBL MVP stole the show en route to 24 points and 11 boards. A close game after three quarters (tied at 56), T-Will got going and helped his squad avoid a massive upset against Sun Block. Brand Black continues to show why they are the favorites to take home the title once it is all said and done.Sun Block (0-3) is reeling after another close loss. For the third consecutive week, they lost a close game to a very tough opponent. The veteran team needs to dig deep to bounce back and put themselves into the conversation once again. Air Gordon (14 points) and The Mute (26 points, 4 dimes) had nice performances but came up short in the end.Player of the Game: T-WillAlpha All Stars 71, Hall of Fame 66The Alpha All Stars (2-1) followed up their 14-point victory against Sunblock last week with a squeaker against Hall of Fame (2-1) in Week 4. In our first Co-Player of the Game game of the summer, Ziggy and Mike Jones proved to be a formidable tandem posting a combined 30 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Jones sealed the deal with a clutch steal in the 4th to cement their tough victory.This game came down to the wire, but B Towns failed to deliver for his squad. In fact, the main thing he delivered for Hall of Fame was 4 straight free-throw bricks in the final quarter, thwarting their chances of claiming the win. It’s a shame that his performance came down to that due to his otherwise godly-efficient game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals. He might have notched one of the top stat lines of the 2014 VBL season, but needs to work on hitting the clutch free throws when they count.Player of the Game: Mike Jones aka Boston Terp & ZiggyI’m Just Different 73, Mean Ones 58It was a successful mission for Agent 10 and I’m Just Different (3-1), who picked up a very solid victory over the Mean Ones (1-2), an imposing veteran group. After falling behind by double digits in the first half, I’m Just Different started the third period with an 8-0 burst and never looked back. Agent 10 and Compton helped turn the game around in the second half after struggling to get going in first two periods.But the main reason why I’m Just Different got into rhythm was the passing by Jay Boogie. Jay Boogie, one of the VBL’s top assist leaders, set up his teammates beautifully and finished with a game-high 9 dimes.Though the Mean Ones fell to the less experienced I.J.D. squad, there were a few encouraging signs. In particular, The Grinch put forth his best effort of the summer (17 points) and looked more locked in than ever. Knowing the resiliency and toughness of The Mean Ones, it would be foolish to count them out of the title discussion just yet.Player of the Game: Delvon Roe aka Agent 10
