VWL Week 3 Recap

GAME 1:
Dr's Orders vs. Hoopbus
Before New Jersey Sets and The Mecca showed up, everyone thought the first match of the weekend would be the lowest scoring game in VBL history. With a 35-31 victory awarded to Dr’s Orders, the first game of VWL Week 3 was disappointing to all who attended, especially for those who watched Dr’s Orders and Hoopbus dominate their respective matchups last week. Hoopbus was without standout Bri, who returned home to the Bay last week after her star weekend. But Dr’s Orders had no excuse, smoking most of the layups in their possession. Their saving grace was player of the game Theresa, with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. Hoopbus’ Kani (9 pts, 12 reb, 3 blocks, 3 steals) and Asia (6 pts, 4 steals) kept Dr’s Orders at arm’s length and picked everybody’s pockets every chance they got. But Dr’s Orders continued their undefeated streak, proving once again their toughness and willingness to win, even on an off day.
GAME 2:
Basketball Beauties vs. Mango House
The second matchup of the VWL weekend took place between Team Mango House and Team Basketball Beauties. Mango House entered the weekend 0-2, hoping to secure their first win, as Bball Beauties hoped to add one more win than loss to their record. Mango House remains winless, with a Bball Beauties 50-41 victory. Player of the game was certainly no surprise in MJ Icey, who continues to not only lead her team, but the league in both points and assists. Her name is no exaggeration, she’s got ice in her veins. MJ showed out with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals and received much more help than last week from Ash (15 pts, 5 reb) whose tough rebound game and quickness continuously put her in scoring position. Mango House saw stars in Lolo (14 pts, 2 3’s, 3 reb) and Aniese (9 pts, 9 reb) who have seen good games since opening weekend, but Mango House must develop a more reliable bench in order to churn out a win in Week 4.
GAME 3:
Lady Sweat vs. Gage
The final game of Week 3 of the VWL was between undefeated Lady Sweat and winless Gage. The game saw star appearances on both sides, with former USC standout Destiny Littleton hooping with Team Gage and Coach Phil Handy on the sidelines for Lady Sweat. Lady Sweat would get out to an early double digit lead, keyed by their transition scoring. Gage would start going more to star player Destiny (14 pts), which would bring them back into the game. Ultimately, Lady Sweat’s collective star power was too much for Gage, with Kendra “The Blender” (9 pts) showing off her impressive dribbles, and Shontalene (9 pts, 3 steals) displaying her defensive acumen. Hayley “Lady White Mamba” earned player of the game for Lady Sweat, tallying up 12 pts, 2 3s, 4 stls, and 3 asts, and putting herself amongst the best players in the Venice Women’s League. For Gage, Kaylin “KK Gets Buckets” (8 pts, 4 rbs) continues to perform at a high level, taking contact at a regular clip and being able to finish through it.
