VWL '24 Week 5 Recap

The courts buzzed with the electrifying energy of players leaving it all on the court. This week all eyes were on game #3 of VWL with a face off of both undefeated teams!

Timeless vs. GRG-OTF 

The clash between Team Timeless and GRG was nothing short of electrifying. From the outset, Timeless brought the heat on defense, applying relentless pressure and forcing numerous steals. Their size advantage was evident as they dominated the paint, making it tough for GRG to find easy buckets. However, GRG mounted a spirited second-half run, highlighted by Mikala's swift transition layups and Christina's tough, hard-earned points. Despite the intense defensive pressure from Timeless, GRG found their groove. The game was full of many highlights including a few from Destiny (11 pts, 6 reb, 1 ast, 1 blk, 2 stls) who showcased her one-on-one skills with a couple of successful iso-cards, as well as pulled off an ankle-breaking move that left defenders in the dust. This game was intense and was sent into gamebreaker. The gamebreaker period was a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with GRG's Pam attempting several clutch three-pointers to keep her team in contention. In the end, it was Timeless' disciplined defense and ability to capitalize on turnovers that sealed the deal, securing a 56-45 victory

Versatile vs. New Jersey Sets

In a thrilling and hard-fought contest, NJS edged out Versatile with a 52-47 victory, capped off by a heart-stopping game-winner. Amanda (14 pts, 1 ast) was on fire from beyond the arc, hitting numerous threes that kept NJS in the game and helped them build momentum. Despite a significant rebound disparity favoring Versatile, NJS's relentless effort and sharp shooting made all the difference. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams battling fiercely and showing incredible determination. By the end, players from both sides were visibly exhausted, having left everything on the court. The intensity of the matchup kept fans on the edge of their seats, and Amanda's clutch shooting was a highlight, demonstrating why she's a key player for NJS. In the final moments, with the score tied and the pressure mounting, Heart (15 pts, 2 reb, 2 stls) from NJS managed to find an opening, and nailed the game-winning shot, sending the crowd into a frenzy. It was a game that showcased the resilience and skill of both teams, but ultimately, NJS's sharpshooting and tenacity earned them the well-deserved win.

WHN vs. Lady Sweat 

The matchup between Team Lady Sweat and WHN, both undefeated teams in the VWL, was  a high-stakes battle. The game was marked by a much-anticipated matchup between the two teams' #35s, Ellis and Lala, which added to the tension and drama on the court. The first half was a tightly contested affair, ending at 16-13 in favor of Lady Sweat, but the second half saw Lady Sweat shift into high gear and run away with the game. Lady Sweat's defensive intensity and effective execution were key in the second half, as they capitalized on WHN's numerous missed open looks. Despite the pressure and the physicality of the matchup, Lady Sweat maintained their composure and showcased their superiority on both ends of the floor. Lala (14 pts, 6 reb, 1 ast)  was the undeniable Player of the Game, delivering a standout performance that propelled her team to victory. The energy and excitement were palpable as the game progressed, with both teams fighting hard to maintain their undefeated records. However, Lady Sweat sealed the deal with a decisive 42-21 win over WHN.
