Packed house on a gloomy day as VeniceBall (VBL) hosted the opener of their 10th annual summer league at the legendary Venice Beach #HoopersParadiseAs always the day began with a group of 40+ kids from Brentwood to Watts who teamed up to be a part of a FREE basketball clinic. The kids went from blending their own smoothies court-side to a beach run to Yoga and a series of basketball drills with coach Paul Davis and Hassan Stephens.Blind Barber was here all day giving away FREE haircuts to kids and fans to create the ultimate court-side basketball experience.93.5K kicked off the afternoon with some fresh beats while the VBL Tryouts were held. HS, streetball and college players got a chance at getting drafted on a official summer league team!18 year old Chris Morataya was drafted as the #1 pick and an another 10 players made the cut. Coached by Legendary coach Wayne Slappy and the X Factor they set a new standard by beating the 2015 Champs Hall Of Fame with top performances by college rising stars Andy Cleaves and Witalif "The Russian" Martynow.The day was capped off by a Celebrity All Star game hosted by the voice of Venice Beach Mouthpiece and VBL founder Nick Ansom.Grammy Nominee/NBA Veteran Moe Ager and the 7'3 Keith "Mythical Creature" Closs laced up in a Highlighted DunkFest!Landon Moss, and a crew of dunk gurus like Myree "Reemix" Bowden, Desi "Slim" Balmore along with several other celebrities who gave the fans what they came to see!!Fitness Icon Jon Brownell, music artist Kalin "Curry's Cousin" White and actor Rome "RomeO" Flynn were making it rain from the 3pt land.If you missed it make sure to be there next week June 12th as Metta World Peace and Nick Young will be bringing their team for a shot at their first VBL championship!
