Survival Hoops turned into a lifestyle
VBL Fam.
Since pandemic hit we challenged our Venice and global hoop community to keep Hoop alive and create hoops out of everyday objects… We now invite you to discover these hoops from our alleyway adventures. We found trash and made it hoopers treasure so we can play in the streets even during the lockdown.
#survivalhoops
Since the first day where Los Angeles County banned playing basketball on its public courts in late March 2020, Lori Powers & Nico Naismith started to built hoops out of recycled junk they found along alleyways that stretch from the Venice boardwalk to Mar Vista, some 180+ in all.
They spent their pandemic days wandering the streets of the Westside looking for discarded items that will form his next improvised “ Survival Hoops”.
Nico says ” One mans Thrash is another mans bucket“, he was inspired from his adventures through the Philippines where most hoops are self made and love reigns supreme.
Nico architect behind the Hoopbus and creator of the Venice Basketball League has dedicated his life to expanding his love for the game of basketball through building courts and hosting events around the globe. Here are a few photos Rob Hammer shot a few weeks ago to give you a sneak peak into what’s to come for their up coming book launching this December.
