| Venice Basketball League (VBL) hosted the 3rd week of their 10th annual summer league this Sunday June 26th.
The day began with a FREE basketball clinic hosted by streetball legend Schea “Manchild” Cotton. He was joined by dunk champions Porter Mayberry and Chris Staples who all shared their inspiring stories.
The day featured a series of 5 games including a Celebrity game. Terrel Owens, Brandon “B Dot” Armstrong, Don Benjamin, Rome Flynn, Malcolm Kelly from Lost, Lipek, director Martin GuiGui, Sheldon Bailey and many more joined in the festivities
The #1 Rule of the VBL is that if you get dunked on, we stop the game and you must have a seat for 2 minutes and that rule had to be applied multiple times! Stay tuned for highlights.
Game 1: Pro Shot West over Blind Barber 41-35
POG: Ramez “Meezy” Michail – 12 pts, 4 rebs, 4 stls
Pro Shot West racked up a season-high 12 steals to win the first game of the day. Player of the Game Ramez Michail scored 12 points and logged 4 steals while Paul “PD” Davis bullied his way to the basket for 14 tough points.
Game 2: Hall of Fame over Most Hated Players 61-59
POG: Joshua “Gucci Man” Gouch – 15 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asts
Hall of Fame used a well balanced attack (5 guys with 8+ points) to pull off a narrow victory over a tough M.H.P. Nick Young’s squad. Both teams refused to back down in a physical battle that entertained spectators from start to finish. Joshua Gouch led Hall of Fame with 15 points.
Game 3: Future Legends over Shepherd Church 62 – 56
POG: Tristan Wilson – 18 pts, 10 rebs
Future Legends held off a late comeback attempt by Shepherd Church to go to 3-0 on the season. Tristan Wilson put up another monster game with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Shepherd Church brought the deficit down to 2 after being down by 16, but ran out of gas down the stretch.
Game 4: Pandas Friend over Los Fearless
POG: Metta World Peace – 28 pts, 7 rebs, 2 stls
Metta World Peace puzzled defenders and dazzled a packed crowd to lead Pandas Friend to a comeback victory in the final game of the day. World Peace drove to the basket, shook a defender off his body, and banked in the game winning shot. Los Fearless continues to be a dominate force on the boards and should bounce back next week.
