VBL Opening Day RECAP

When Hoop Dreams become a reality
#1 VBL Draft Pick Andy Cleaves 19 years old VS NBA All Star Metta World Peace
Venice Basketball League (VBL) hosted the opener of their 10th annual summer league at the legendary Venice Beach with a 5 games series.

The day began with KVBL and a group of 40+ kids who learned a thing or two from NBA vet and Grammy nominated Moe Ager also practicing Yoga moves with Yogi master Megan Failace.

The four most dedicated young hoopers got a chance to lace up and join in on a game with the pro’s, where they got to experience having their names called by “Mouthpiece” as their parents and fans cheered them on!

The last game of the day served up VBL at its finest, when Metta World Peace and NFL Legend Terrel Owens teamed up to take on Shepherd Church.

The game went back and forth with Roland “Rollo” Nunez making it rain from the 3pt land and Metta enforcing the paint!

With 8 seconds left to go in the game TO threw a beautiful pass to 2x final MVP Brandon “The Mute” Fields to go up by 1.
Coming out of a timeout, Ian “Franchise” Francis had a great look at winning the game but the ball went in and out

Pandas Friend wins 65-63 and player of the game honors go to Terrel Owens 18pts 6rbs & 4 ast.

While the NBA is about to wrap up, here at the VBL, the “Game Never Stops” and we want to invite fans and media to take part of this unique experience.

If you missed out on all the action make sure to be there next Sunday, June 19th, to witness as Metta World Peace and Nick Young play for a shot at their first VBL championship!
