Week 6 Mani Love, Metta World Peace and Brand Black battle for stardom at Venice Beach

VENICE,CA– Sunday marks a day of rest for many but during the summers in Los Angeles more and more of the worlds greatest basketball athletes and fans are at Venice Beach for The Venice Basketball League (VBL). Twelve teams of pro’s, NCAA prospects and street ball stars have been battling it out all summer for bragging rights and more importantly, the love of the game. With the playoffs just around the corner several teams need wins to secure their spots as contenders.

Five brand new teams enter the fray this season. In addition to ‘Court Side’ the select high school All-American squad led by Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest) the ‘Brand Black All-Stars’ (Sponsor of LA Clippers guard Jamal Crawford) are the talk of the town. Brand Black, the only undefeated team, features Red Bulls’ King of the Rock World Champion Tarron The BeastWilliams and the high flying, Sports Center and Drew League sensation known as Kwame HitmanAlexander. Several prospects from last summer are expected to return this week from world tours including Harlem Globe Trotters dunk phenom Chris “Hoopstar” Staples, fresh off of a win at the ESPYs Dunk Contest as well as the worlds biggest street ball star and VBL crowd favorite Mani Love standing 4’4” tall.

As usual a full day of music and festivities are planned starting at 9am with the Kids Venice Basketball League (KVBL) camp presented by new 501(c)3 partners, the Hoop Foundation (Inglewood, CA). New KVBL staff includes Comptons own, NBA Veteran Corey Benjamin and Yoga Instructor, Bobbi Hamilton (Chi Universe). The camp will also feature curated art and a workshop by our friends at Beautify Earth.

Live musical acts and performances produced by The School Tour take the court each halftime with up and coming talent and radio artists. New prize giveaways are in store every week at the VBL which takes place this and every Sunday with the championships slated for August 17th.
