VWL Week 2: WHN 54 – LadySweat 52 — A Gamebreaker Comeback Classic

In what will go down as one of the most unforgettable finishes in VWL history, WHN stunned LadySweat with a dramatic 54-52 comeback victory in Week 2, handing the defending powerhouse their first loss in two seasons. The game ended in pure chaos—a game-winning steal and breakaway layup by Kameria—capping off a comeback for the ages in front of a roaring venice beach crowd.

LadySweat came out firing, opening the game with an explosive 18-0 run, dominating the first quarter behind the red-hot play of Ruth (#4), who poured in 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Lala (#33) added 13 points with flawless free-throw shooting, and by halftime, LadySweat had built what looked like an insurmountable 28-10 lead.

But WHN never panicked.

The spark came in the second quarter from Amiah Simons, who knocked down a momentum-shifting three that lit the fire. From there, WHN slowly clawed their way back, with Simons leading the charge on her way to 20 points (7-19 FG, 5-5 FT). Kameria was surgical in the second half, finishing with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Icey added 8 critical points and hustle plays that helped swing the momentum.

The fourth quarter was pure drama. WHN tied the game at 50 on clutch free throws from Simons, but LadySweat answered with a clutch bucket from Shereen (#3) to go back up 52-50. Then came the moment.

With the game on the line, Kameria jumped the passing lane, snatched a steal at halfcourt, and raced in for the game-tying and game-winning layup in one swift motion—a a real Gamebreaker play that sent the Venice beach into a frenzy.

The win moves WHN to 1-1 and marks a turning point in their season, showcasing their grit, unity, and ability to perform under pressure. For LadySweat, it’s a tough loss—but one that proves how competitive and deep the league has become.

This was more than just a game. It was a reminder that in the VWL, no lead is safe, no moment too big, and every second counts.

BBJ 68, Crep Protect 65 – VBL Season XX Week 2 Recap

In one of the most exciting games of VBL Season XX so far, BBJ edged out Crept Protect 68-65 in a highly competitive Week 2 showdown. The game featured momentum swings, high-efficiency scoring, and a wild fourth quarter that nearly saw Crept steal the win.

BBJ came out firing, jumping to an early 18-6 lead behind Zach Hinton’s six quick points. Crept Protect answered back with a 10-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters, keeping the game close and trimming the gap to just one at halftime, 29-28.

The third quarter belonged to Hezi God, who exploded for 23 of his game-high 30 points during a scorching stretch. He drained three triples, scored 11 straight points, and helped BBJ build their largest lead at 54-38. It looked like BBJ might run away with it, but Crept Protect refused to fold.

Led by Omari Ferguson’s ultra-efficient 21 points (10-of-13 shooting) and Marshawn’s 16 (8-of-11), Crept mounted a late push. Ferguson poured in 11 points in the final quarter, and a late basket by Troy brought them within one point at 66-65. With the game hanging in the balance, BBJ leaned on their veterans. Hinton—who finished with 16 points—delivered the dagger with a clutch bucket in the final moments to seal the win.

Despite falling to 1-1, Crept Protect showed plenty of grit and cohesion in their late surge. Meanwhile, BBJ remains unbeaten at 2-0, behind their electric scoring duo of Hezi and Hinton and efficient support from players like Jiair Winfrey, who added 9 points on 80% shooting.

This matchup was a clear early-season statement from both teams—and if this is a preview of a future playoff battle, fans are in for a show.

VBL Season XX – Week 2 Final: Westside War 49, Cough Syrup 47

In a thrilling Elam Ending finish, the Westside War edged out Cough Syrup 49-47 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Player of the Game Jordan Robinson led the way with 20 points 9 rebs on 10-of-13 shooting before being ejected late in the fourth quarter, while Rick Maganga added 11 points on an efficient 5-of-6 from the field.

Westside jumped out early with a 15-6 advantage behind Maganga’s scoring, but Cough Syrup responded with a 6-0 run to close the gap. The third quarter belonged to Cough Syrup, who used a 9-0 surge to take a 33-25 lead. AJ Harris continued to be a steady playmaker, finishing with 12 points and several timely assists, including a third-quarter dime that helped keep the offense flowing. Yuus (#25) was dominant, finishing with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and Jamal (#23) added 10 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.

The Gamebreaker ending was full of drama, capped off by a highlight-reel poster dunk from Yuus off a slick no look dime from the “Chosen One” Aj Harris, igniting the crowd and tensions alike, which led to Robinson’s ejection. That moment swung momentum back toward Cough Syrup, but Westside kept their composure. With the game target at 48 points 46-47 in the Elam Ending, and after Cough Syrup briefly took a one point lead at the line, Kaison Randolph stepped up and buried a cold-blooded gamewinning three to seal the victory and redeem his ejected teammate in dramatic fashion.

VWL– Week 2 Final: Hoopbus 42, GRG 32

Hoopbus improved to 2-0 with a strong 42-32 win over GRG, riding a dominant first-quarter performance and steady execution down the stretch. MJ (#12) sparked the team early with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a smooth three-pointer, as Hoopbus opened the game on a commanding 14-0 run. Alyssa (#10) was perfect from the field, adding 9 points, and Kk Gets Buckets (#5) chipped in 8 points on 75% shooting to keep the offense balanced and efficient.

Despite the slow start, GRG showed resilience and heart throughout the game. Jayza (#1) broke the scoring drought with a confident drive, leading a push that brought GRG within five points during the second quarter. Keena Lawson (#9) led the way with 7 points, while Jayza added 6 on 50% shooting. Vee (#25) and Allahya (#2) contributed 4 points each, with Allahya calmly sinking key free throws to keep GRG in striking distance.

The final stretch saw GRG attempt a spirited comeback with a 12-0 run fueled by defensive pressure and improved ball movement, but Hoopbus remained poised. Janae (#2) delivered clutch buckets for Hoopbus, finishing with 11 points and helping shut the door on any comeback attempt. While GRG fell to 0-2, their second-half effort and team chemistry hinted at future success, while Hoopbus continued to look like a rising force early in the season.

VBL Season XX – Week 2 Final: Tru Height 68, United Nation 51

Tru Heights bounced back in a big way in Week 2, earning a dominant 68-51 win over United Nation and evening their season record to 1-1. The team came out firing behind Player of the Game, Brandon Jamar’s incredible 29-point outburst, where he connected on 14-of-17 shots and set the tone early with 11 first-quarter points. Tru Heights stormed out to a 19-6 lead, using defensive pressure and efficient ball movement to control the tempo from the opening tip.

United Nation showed flashes of resilience behind the strong play of Drew Koda, who finished with 18 points and three triples. Van added 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Miles contributed 8 points including two threes to help keep United Nation in striking distance. After cutting the deficit to 28-20 at halftime and later pulling within 26-22 early in the third, United Nation had momentum—but Tru Heights quickly flipped the switch.

The third quarter proved to be the difference-maker as Tru Heights erupted for a 23-10 run, powered by Mark’s sharpshooting—he finished with 12 points, including three big triples. Deshaun added 11 points (5-of-7 FG), and Fomby chipped in 8 to help seal the win. Amos Hines quietly delivered a well-rounded performance, tallying 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and posting a team-high +19 in the plus-minus category. Despite a late 10-0 run by United Nation in the fourth quarter, Tru Heights maintained their composure, with Deshaun (11 points on 5-of-7 shooting) and Fomby (8 points) making key contributions down the stretch. The team's unselfish play and efficient shooting helped secure the impressive bounce back victory.

VBL Week 2 Final: Hidden Empire 77, Timeless 70

Hidden Empire controlled the pace from start to finish, picking up their first win of the season with a strong 77-70 victory over Timeless. From the opening tip, they set the tone behind an aggressive offensive attack and solid team defense. Player of The game, Navar Elmore  led the way with 18 points 11 rebounds and 4 blocks , while Bernard Ireland chipped in 17 on an impressive 8-of-11 shooting night and the New kid on the block Ron Falkner finished with 18 points.

Jumping out to a 19-12 first-quarter lead, Hidden Empire never looked back. Ron Falkner sparked the early run with 13 first-half points, keeping Timeless on their heels. Despite a few mini-runs from Timeless, Hidden Empire maintained their lead going into halftime, up 33-31. In the second half, Navar Elmore dominated inside, and Bernard Ireland took over late with 11 of his 17 points coming in the fourth. Clutch free throws and unselfish ball movement closed the door on any Timeless comeback attempt.

Timeless, now 0-2, had strong individual efforts but couldn’t string together enough stops. Juice led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Elvin Rodrigruez added 19 points on 9-of-14 from the field. Sikwit It knocked down three threes for 9 points, and Shane and T. Glo contributed efficient buckets. But their late push fell short, as Hidden Empire’s wire-to-wire control and balanced attack proved too much to overcome.
