Led by WeigsWorld in association with Project backboard and FindYourGrind, we completed our most comprehensive basketball court project to date. The veniceball paint squad spent two weeks in the blazing sun of West Phoenix at Desert Horizon School renovating two full courts. With the help of local legends Kenny Dobbs, Larry Valenzuela, and desert horizon and ASU students, the desert horizon court was born. It took a village but we got it done. We kicked it off with an epic day of grand opening festivities. The day began with passionate speeches about finding your grind from FYG Co-founders Nick Gross and Dingo and wise words about basketball and staying off the streets from Kenny Dobbs. Then we had a skills clinic for the kids, led by Kenny Dobbs and Nick Ansom. Everyone got buckets. After that, the kids hit the bouncy and the BBQ, while the celebrities took over for an epic inaugural run. VBL legends Ziggy and K Money shut down the game with vintage performances, and Oliver Twist blessed us with his hops one last time before leaving to join the Harlem Globetrotters. At halftime, the dunkers took center stage, headlined by Bionic Brooks taking off from the free throw line. We ended our night at FYG fest at ASU. The next day we took off back to California, but as usual took the scenic route home as we embarked on Desert Tour part 4, getting buckets at 20 desert courts along the way.
